Each residency is an average of 2 months and it generally culminates in an exhibition of newly created works. The programme hosts an average of 8 artists balanced evenly between Southern Africa and Switzerland.  

All hosting studios offer accommodation and assistance to visiting artists in establishing a network. Pro Helvetia Johannesburg commits itself to booking the suitable studio and accommodation space, a return air fare, a small amount for living and travel expenses, medical insurance and exhibition costs.
