The popular Cape Town Edge will take up residence at the Princess Alice Hall in Grahamstown, offering a record eleven shows at this year’s National Arts Festival.
The pioneering initiative is a collective of independent theatre makers presenting ground-breaking work originating from Cape Town. Supported by Pro Helvetia Cape Town through its mandate with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Cape Town Edge (CTE) is now in its fourth year, and has become a firm favourite at the Festival – as much for its cutting-edge shows on offer as for the delicious sustenance provide front of house.
“From seven shows in 2007, Cape Town Edge is proud to be showcasing a record eleven productions this year,” says Jaqueline Dommisse of Hearts & Eyes Theatre Collective, a CTE co-founding company. “There is something for everyone, from comedy, drama and breath-taking visual theatre, to beautiful human stories and entertainment for our younger audiences.” “With a longer festival, we have been able to accommodate more productions in an almost two-phased format of the run,” adds Tanya Surtees of FTH:K, the other founding company of CTE.
